A certified document is a copy of an original document which is endorsed and verified to be a true copy.

How to certify your documents

Step 01

Find an Authorising Officer

Locate a qualified Authorising Officer from the approved list of professions.

Step 02

Bring your documents

Take both the original document and a clear copy of the original document to the officer.

Step 03

Officer verification

The officer inspects, stamps, signs, and dates the copy — confirming it is a true copy of the original.

Required Certification Statement

The Authorising Officer must write or stamp one of the following:

"I have sighted the original document and certify this to be a true copy of the original"

The officer must also sign and date the statement, including their full name, occupation, and phone number.

  • Health professionals
  • Public servants
  • Teachers
  • Legal professionals
  • Court positions
  • Commissioners
  • Government representatives
  • Bank officers
  • Veterinary surgeons
  • Accountants
  • Ministers of religion or marriage celebrants
  • Notary publics
  • Holders of statutory office
  • Police officers

Required Documents

For your ABA Australia membership application:

  • Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
  • University Testamur and Transcripts
  • Transcript from a VCS
  • Photo ID
  • Marriage Certificate

Australian University Graduates — My eQuals

Those who completed degrees through an Australian university may access testamurs and transcripts via My eQuals. Use the built-in sharing features to generate secure links, send directly to organisations, or email authorised copies with a PIN. University documents received via this method are accepted as certified documents.
