Non-Practising Certification

A hold on your CBA or CBA-U certification for up to 3 years — keeping your pathway back to active certification seamlessly open while you step away from practice.

Overview & Eligibility

Eligibility: Non-Practising Certification is available exclusively to CBA and CBA-U certificants. During this term, you must not be practising behaviour analysis. If you need to maintain practice but cannot meet certification requirements, please consider resigning your certification instead.

Current Policy Information: Non-Practising Policy v1 was in effect prior to 17 June 2026 and applies to certificants granted non-practising status before that date. Non-Practising Policy v3 is now in effect for all certifications granted on or after 17 June 2026. The annual renewal fee and requirements described below apply to Policy v3 unless otherwise noted.

Transitioning to Non-Practising

Certificants interested in transitioning to Non-Practising Certification should first carefully review the relevant policy and procedure document to ensure they understand the implications and requirements.

Application Process

1

Review the Non-Practising Policy and procedure to understand all implications and requirements before proceeding.

2

If your request is within 6 weeks of your CBA or CBA-U renewal date, prepare your CPD log and certificates of completion for PDUs — these must be submitted alongside your request.

3

Complete and submit the Non-Practising Request Form to formally initiate the transition.

Benefits During Term

Non-Practising Certificants who also hold Certified Membership are entitled to Supporter level member benefits during their Non-Practising term.
