Designed as a hold on your CBA or CBAU certification for up to 3 years if you are planning a short absence from the field and wish to remain connected to the behaviour analytic profession and have a seamless pathway to return to practice in the future.
Eligibility
Non-Practising Membership is only available for CBA and CBAU members at this time.
Important: Non-Practising Membership means that you should NOT be practising behaviour analysis during this membership period. This status is intended for members who are temporarily stepping away from active practice.
If you are unable to maintain certification at this time but will continue practising, you should instead resign your membership.
Current Policy Information
Non-Practising Membership Policy v1 was in effect prior to 17 June 2026. Members who were granted Non-Practising Membership prior to this date should refer to policy v1 and the instructions provided via email from the Membership Team. Policy v2 came into effect 17 June 2026.
The information regarding annual renewal fees and requirements below applies to Policy v2.
Transitioning to Non-Practising Membership
Members interested in transitioning to non-practising membership should first carefully review the relevant policy and procedure document to ensure they understand the implications and requirements of this change.
Once familiar with the policy and procedures, they are required to complete and submit the designated form for processing. This form is essential for formalizing the transition and must be filled out accurately to avoid any delays or issues with their membership status.
Please ensure that all necessary steps are followed to facilitate a smooth and efficient transition.

Requirements & Responsibilities (Policy v2)
CPD Log Requirement
If the non-practising request is within 6 weeks of the CBA or CBAU membership renewal date, the member is required to submit their CPD log and certificates of completion for PDUs to be considered for non-practising membership.
Annual Renewal Responsibility
It is the member's responsibility to complete the annual Non-Practising Membership Renewal Form, pay the renewal fee which will be issued to your account, and follow the required steps to maintain non-practising membership. Without active renewal, non-practising membership will be revoked and membership will be lapsed.

Members who were granted non-practising membership prior to 17 June 2026 will continue to adhere to Non-Practising Membership Policy v1.
Notable differences include:
- Exempt from paying the annual renewal fee
- Administration fee upon reinstatement of membership is required
- Required to complete annual renewal survey
