There is a disconnect between NDIA’s understanding of behaviour support and use of ABA in behaviour supports. This is putting many NDIS participants in contact with providers who are not qualified to provide empirically-based support to manage behaviours of concern and build appropriate replacement behaviours. This roundtable discussion will address the following questions:
What are the challenges faced when implementing ABA assessment and intervention in the context of NDIS behaviour support?
How can we get our discipline recognised as the gold standard for behaviour support?
  • Time: Saturday, 30 July 2:45-4:00pm
    Location: Meeting Room
Description: Many behaviour-analytic service providers provide support to children under the Capacity Building - Daily Living, Early Childhood Intervention Supports (under seven years of age) category. This is a board category that has to encompass a child’s entire early intensive behavioural intervention program. This roundtable will address the following questions:
    What services do you provide?
What are the challenges of providing those services in the NDIS?
What actions need to be taken for behaviour analysts become a recognised profession under this item number with the criteria of being certified under ABA Australia?
  • Time: Sunday, 31 July 1:00-2:15 pm
    Location: Meeting Room
Description: NDIS released a version of a price guide that prevented most behaviour analysts from billing NDIS. Though this issue has been resolved for this year, it is possible that this could happen in the future. This roundtable will address the following questions:
If NDIA was to remove the other ‘other’ category in therapeutic supports, how would this affect your business?
How would this affect the clients you serve?
What actions need to be taken for behaviour analysts become a recognised profession under this item number with the criteria of being certified under ABA Australia?
What are the benefits to having behaviour analysts listed specifically in Specialist Behavioural Intervention Support?
  • Time Sunday, 31 July 9:00-10:15 am
    Location: Meeting Room
Description: Many behaviour-analytic service providers provide support to children under the Capacity Building - Daily Living Therapeutic Supports over 7 years old category. This roundtable will address the following questions:
    What services do you provide?
What are the challenges of providing those services in the NDIS?
What steps are necessary to make the NDIA see that ABA is beneficial for children over the age of 7 and that ABA funding should not be cut as the child is not longer in early intervention?
What actions need to be taken for behaviour analysts become a recognised profession under this item number with the criteria of being certified under ABA Australia?
